Ageing Societies

Ageing societies and the need for an international Master in Gerontology

The increase of longevity of the population is one of the major achievements of the twentieth century. This rapid demographic transition poses both opportunities and challenges to many European countries. By the same token the need for training and education in gerontology is also increasing, particularly in the field of health and social welfare.

Our program aims to expand opportunities to study gerontology at Master's level and to train professionals and students in the various gerontological fields of action across Europe, enhancing professional gerontological skills and expertise. Additionally, it offers new opportunities to students who have no access to gerontological study programs in their country.

The European Master in Gerontology is a dynamic and challenging program, bringing together a host of knowledge and experience from lecturers and participants throughout Europe. The focus on research and development in different European countries with a multidiciplinary perspective (psychological, sociological, biological and medical) is the program's major strength. The emphasis on international comparison and exchange of different European research, views and policies, gives the EuMaG program a distinguished value over any national gerontological study.
