Since October 2004 Martha Meyer has been a full Professor of nursing sciences at university of applied sciences -HTW- des Saarlandes at Saarbrücken. She is involved in the development of a new faculty of health and nursing and lecturer in the Bachelor programme Management and Expertise for Health professionals and development of a gerontology module for nursing professionals. Main research areas: evaluation of small area based community care services and health needs assessment; development of community care services with respect on dementia care. - 1999-2000: responsible scientific coordinator of the EU-workgroup 'European Master in Gerontology' Brussels. 2001-2004: assistant professor at Bremen university, department human and health sciences. Vocational qualifications und scientific degrees:- 1971-1983: vocational education as a nurse, and further education as a specialist nurse for intensive care and anaesthesia; professional experience in different german hospitals- 1983-1990: vocational education as a nursing teacher and professional experience as a nursing teacher in a nursing school. - 1990-1995 Study of social sciences at Wuppertal University and degree as a social scientist- Until 1999 doctoral fellow at Wuppertal University: doctoral Thesis: "Studium der Gerontologie in Europa". Memberships: Member of the German society of Gerontology and Geriatrics, German society of Health sciences and Public Health e.V.-DVGHP-, Advisory board of the Morbus Alzheimer Society -MAS- Austria, Advisory Group "Demographic Change" Saarland Government.

Main activities and research areas:
- Currently in the EU-Project: 'EuroFamCare: Services for supporting family carers of elderly people in Europe: Characteristics, Coverage and Usage'. (responsible for the german national background report); community care with respect on dementia care; international gerontological curriculum research.
- Member of a workgroup for reconstructing the departemental study programmes following the BA/MA-structures at Bremen univesity and responsible for developing a curriculum for a Master in Health Gerontology.
- 1999-2000: responsible scientific coordinator of the EU-workgroup 'European Master in Gerontology' Brussels.
